When you are overcome with intense emotions, the following exercises can help slow down your heart rate.

Remember to incorporate these exercises with the “Resetting Fight or Flight Breathing Technique.”

1) Turn on the cold water tap.

2) Close your eyes and feel the sensation of the water running over your hands.

3) Focus on the water’s temperature and how it feels on your fingertips, palms, and the backs of your hands.

4) Make note of how it feels. Is it the same or different as you focus on each part of your hands?

5) Slowly, splash your face with cold water.

6) Try taking a cold shower and tune into your bodily sensations as the water drenches you.

7) Hold something cold from your freezer and focus on the sensation.
