Resetting Fight or Flight Breathing Technique

The most important element that I have found in practicing any grounding techniques is that of conscious breathing. The following breathing exercise helps to calm and reset our nervous system.

Using this breathing technique along with various grounding techniques can assist in bringing our system back into the window of tolerance, from a hyperarousal state.

Resetting Fight or Flight Breathing Technique

1) Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4.

2) Hold your breathe for a count of 4.

3) Exhale through your mouth for a count of 4.

4) Continue to empty your lungs for a count of 4.

5) Now breathe in through your nose for a count of 4.

6) Hold your breathe for a count of 4.

7) Exhale through your mouth for a count of 4.

8) Continue to empty your lungs for a count of 4.

9) Repeat
